P365 D35: Early Visits to Central America

In a week I will be in Costa Rica (OMG). As a way to prepare for my travel I've started reading this summary of ethnohistoric accounts in the early 20th century (Early Scholar's Visits to Central America). Most of the accounts in the manuscript were originally in German but translated into English in 2000 by UCLA. One of the the most interesting aspects of this book is that they included recent visits by anthropologists to the same areas. What you see are very similiar problems confronting the indigenous population in the region today that they faced 100 years ago, including loss of language, acculturation, and encroachment by land developers and corporations.
