Ash Wednesday and Lent

Every year, even though I'm not very religious I give up something for Lent. This year I was going to give up caffeine, to which Jennifer replied "Over my dead body, like I'm sending you out into public uncaffeniated, that is irresponsible". So we came to an agreement, I'm now only allowed one cup of coffee in the morning for the next 40 days and 40 nights. I should either be more relaxed or you will read about some Texas Chainsaw massacre.

Also, why I no longer watch the Oscars. How could this song not win an award or even be nominated. Happy Ash Wednesday.

Day 173: Friday Night Lights (9/12/2008)

I went over to a friends house to watch the KU - South Florida football game along with the remnants of hurricane Ike that dumped rain. KU lost in 37-34 but at least the game was entertaining. Here we see ways to cope with grilling in the rain. J is the man because he has awesome firefighter gloves so he can really work the coals.

Day 172: High Fructose Corn Syrup Advert (9/11/2008)

Jennifer and I have been discussing this commercial that she saw on TV for high fructose corn syrup. At one level this ad is really disturbing and at another people are at least changing their eating habits to have an impact on industrial agriculture. I feel that probably in the next 20 years the fight over high fructose corn syrup will be the same as tobacco.

Why didn't I think of that.

Philip Ball has an great editorial about Social Networks and Marvel Comic Book characters (you can read the research article here). Apparently, they are just like other parts of society, elitist and mostly male. I wonder who got to do that research. Here is a bunch of comic books from 60 years, read them and we will publish the results. An actual use for comic collections. Damn, I wish I would thought that one up.
