PD: Day 54 - Lipid Results

Today, was fairly busy. Woke up but J is feeling all wonky from her vertigo so we didn't workout. I feel kind of bad about it. Head to work, but still no PC so I call and it is here and should be ready this afternoon. I need to work on an abstract, a manuscript proposal, and edit a paper today, plus I need to send some information to get a rush GWAS to go for the abstract. Plus today I get my lipid results back from the health screening so cool.

I spend most of the morning sending info off for the GWAS and getting ready for the new PC to ride. The PC rolls in around 11:45 and the monitor is huge, a 24" widescreen that dwarves the desktop box. Very nice. We get that set up and everything re-loaded from the back up tapes. So now it looks like I never left but it takes sometime to adjust that. Around 3:30 I head over to get my lipid results. Here is how I did
  • Total Cholestrol = 196
  • HDL = 51
  • LDL = 120
  • VLDL = 25
  • Gluscose = 87
So I'm under in everything that is important. The current heart association guidleines for total cholesterol is under 200 is good, with a target of around 180. Although I don't think you want to go below 170 as low low cholesterol is not a good thing either. My HDL (good cholesterol) is above 40, which is good for males but I should probably try and get that up to around 60. My LDL (bad cholesterol) is 120, a little high and should be down around 100. I'm actually at high risk for heart disease because of genetics (my father died from a heart attack and so did his father) so it is important to ascertain the risk I have from other variables. After that I get the results back from the GWAS, nothing I'm looking for - umm grrr but I translate from a pedsys file to a excel file in case I need to look at it later.

I head home, it is my turn to cook tonight. Stroganoff so I do the dishes, empty the dishwasher, go ahead and start cooking. It is alright not great, but is clearly missing something. I've never been a cook as I rely on J, who is excellent and creative in the kitchen, whereas the highlights of my culinary career relvolve around chili and tacos with a good deal of frozen pizza thrown in. J is not feeling good so she heads off to bed, while the kids and I watch Beverly Hills Chihuahua, the kids love this movie but I fairly sure it is a sign of the decline of western civilization. Granted I had a chihuahua when I was a kid, the lady at the pound told me it was a golden lab. Not so much but Custer never grew more than 4" off the ground and died chasing cars. My brother always claimed he was a rat with an identity crisis. Ever since then I have always lived with dogs or OK since I moved in with J. We all fell asleep on the couch.
