This is the second book in a trilogy and it was alright. Whereas
Hominids looked at human world through a Neanderthals eyes, this one see more of the Neanderthal world through one major characters eyes. Overall, this book is somewhat hung up on sex between Neanderthals and Humans. I wasn't really sure what Sawyer was trying to do in this trilogy until I read
Demonic Males. Ultimately, Sawyer is trying to extrapolate the differences between bonobos and chimps into humans and Neanderthals. Apparently, Neanderthals adopted more of a bonobo social structure and humans are more like chimpanzees.
The book was readable but if you haven't read the first one you will be completely lost. I give 3 out 5 stars.
