P365 D85: Genetic Structure Presentation

I gave a presentation today at the Biological Anthropology Seminar (my vote was for Biological Anthropology Lecture series (BALS) on the Genetic Structure of Central American populations. I saw some old friend who were in town from Madison for the day who stopped and there was a fairly good turnout of undergrads, and LBA people. I actually like doing these things because you get unexpected questions that make you think.


My dissertation focuses on the molecular genetic makeup of Central American populations inhabiting the region between the "complex cultural regions" of Mesoamerica and Chibchan populations living further south in Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, and Costa Rica. There is a general lack of data on these groups inhabiting Honduras and Nicaragua even though they are the two largest countries in the region. This is a graph from previously published data (collated by myself) that shows mtDNA haplogroup distribution of Central American indigenous populations from the presentation.
