P365 D79: Recyling
Because Lawrence doesn't have a community sponsored recycling pick-up program every couple of weeks we load up the car with cans, newspaper, chipboard, plastic bags, etc and head down to the Recycling Center and drop it off next to Wal-Mart. This time, they hadn't been since I left for Costa Rica, so we actually had to load up the two cars. We are a family of six (mom, dad, g-ma, and tres ninos) so anything we can do to reduce the waste we produce is good by me and for the third rock from the sun. We generally only have one garbage (medium not the 55 gallon type) can every week and this can be directly correlated with our effort to reduce waste. We would produce even less if the center took not bottle plastic, which are recyclable but now go to the 2nd largest recycler in Lawrence, the Lawrence Art Preschool (where Spencer goes). Does recycling take a little extra work, yes but it is worth it, it doesn't cost anything, and the boys like to help with sorting it and putting it in the bin. So the way I figure it we are instilling an important lesson in them at an early age.
