P355 D49: Bluefields to Rama Cay

We were met in Bluefields at the docks by our guide J. We then had a few things to do before taking off for RC in the afternoon. Bluefields is not initially the most stunning place in the world, however it is the largest city on the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua and has a port across the bay at Bluff. The town is named after a Dutch pirate Bleufeldt who used the area as a hangout and people still celebrate the pirate heritage. The area is home to an interesting mix of people including English speaking Afro-Caribbeans who were brought by the British to work on the railroad, Garifuna, Rama, Miskito and Meztizos. We walked around town took care of some buisness and then jumped in our panga to head to RC, which about 45 minutes to an hour if you have a motor or 3 hours sailing from Bluefields, it was raining so we got plenty wet but the view was outstanding.
