Modern Love

It's complicated but very popular judging by the recent slew of news articles and blogs about why we have sex and who isn't hooking up. A couple notable ones include the NY Times article on the 237 reasons why humans have sex. The researchers who conducted this research broke these reasons into four broad categories (Physical, Goal Attainment, Emotional, and Insecurity). While some of the exact reasons are a little weak it allows for some thought on why individuals seek physical love beyond procreation. Saint Augustine thought that humans were the only animals to have sex for recreational purposes but research on Bonobos (for a good review of these chimps read this from the New Yorker) has suggested that we are not alone in this endeavor. However, apparently the only people not getting any love are the smart ones. Mental Floss take up where Gene Expression left off and notes the higher the IQ the lower the BQ (booty quotient). I'm not sure why this is but perhaps they just weren't interested in it, although there is probably going to be an increase in Wellesley Art Majors and Minors. What I'm interested is how many offspring smart people have versus those who have sex at an earlier age?
